We made it to the west coast. Well… sort of. Te Anau sits right by Fiordland National Park—you can’t really get much closer—but to reach the actual coast, you still have to drive about two hours through stunning scenery.

The night we arrived, it poured with rain. The next morning, we set off for Milford Sound. All that rainwater had turned the mountains into one giant waterfall factory, with little cascades everywhere along the road. Over and over we’d round a corner and just go, “Wow!!” It’s a magical place.

To avoid the buses and crowds that roll in later, we booked an early cruise through Milford Sound. We went with Mitrepeak—they run smaller boats than some of the other companies, which makes the whole experience feel more intimate. Everything’s also a bit more relaxed here, so when we arrived and showed our tickets, the lady behind the counter said, “Your tour is scheduled for tomorrow.” My German brain immediately started spiraling at the thought of another 5 AM start and doing the whole drive again… but then she smiled and said, “I’ll just rebook you for today, if that’s alright with you?” So we got to hop on and cruise around Milford Sound after all.

On the way back to the car, we took a look at the helicopter tours. Neither of us had ever flown in a helicopter before, and aside from a three-day hike, it was basically our only chance to see Sutherland Falls. So we went for it. The helicopter gave us incredible views over the landscape and even landed near Lake Quill in the mountains—the lake that feeds Sutherland Falls, the highest waterfall in New Zealand.

We don't have a good picture of the Waterfall though, we were busy staring out of the windows. 👀

On our way back, we made stop on several different locations. For example the Chasm Walk, Monkey Creek, Lake Gunn and the Mirror Lake. The local Kea Bird was present on multiple parking lots in the area, probably because people are throwing them food, even thought it's written that they should not. I was able to take multiple underexposed and blurry pictures of the bird. After that day I watched many youtube videos about how to setup a camera correctly. Better 7 years later than never I guess.

The Mirror Lake was already a bit blurry, due to woken animals and wind, but you get the idea here.

The next days were more rainy and we used the time to recharge and dined through all the overrated and overbooked restaurants in Te Anau. On our short journey to Lake Manapouri, we had a background of misty mountains.

After Te Anau and Milford Sound, we headed into the direction of Wanaka, or at least into that area. Close by is Queenstown, near the Lake Wakatipu, Arrowtown, Jack's Point and Glenorchy.

Jack's Point is the first city we passed by on our way. It's a city within an incredible valley, surrounded by mountains, directly on a lake. It's a luxury place to live, with a golf court and expensive cafe's where a beer cost 18€.

New Zealand is basically Middle Earth, you can find filming spots for Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit all over New Zealand. We used this map (reddit source) to navigate around and stop at the movie locations. Many times we would just drive through scenic mountains and fields and try to figure out if that's really it. Our next stop led us to Arrowtown, where can find two Lord of the Ring locations.

1) The Fellowship starting scene where Isildur dies and loses the ring to the river

2) Frodo when he get's rescued by Arwen from the River

Aften you need to have a lot of imagination and a bit of faith that these places are really the movie location. It's more than 25 years ago that they shot these scenes and we didn't always know right away which scenes should it be to get the right angle. 📐

The region also has a lot of farms for wheat, fruits, wine and nuts. That's when my hay fever allergy kicked in like never before. It's a common allergy in New Zealand (about 25% of the people here have it), and it seems to be very strong here. We got some strong medication in the pharmacy and after a few days it got better.

Queenstown has a lot to offer as well, we went to the Queenstown Gardens, from where you have access to the Lake Wakatipu.

On the way to Glenorchy was another movie location, it's the place where Sam explains potatoes to Gollum. "Potatoes? Boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew!".

But also other nice lookouts are on the way, like this view on the north part of Lake Wakatipu and the street leading to Glenorchy.

Above Glenorchy are many movie locations, the part where Isengard was located and the forest Lothlorien, the home of the Galadhrim elves and Galadriel.

This is somewhat close to where Gandalf was chasing to Isengard, just to get captured by Saruman.

On our way back, a herd of Uruk-hai – I mean – Sheep was blocking our way. The shepherd encouraged us to "drive positively" through the herd. "You've even driven through a herd of sheep?", he asked. Well we took the opportunity. We also have a video of it.

And these are some other locations we visited in that region.

That's it in these parts! The next route will actually bring us to the west coast, which we will drive up until we arrive in Picton and take a ferry to the north island.

On the way to Dunedin we came across the Elephant Rocks, a field of Limestones that are over 20 million years old. Some scenes in Chronicles of Narnia movie were apparently filmed here.

Dunedin is a bigger city than we expected, it has somewhat steep streets (apparently the steepest street in the world) like in San Francisco, old architecture and many restaurants. Though, we figured that lot of these restaurants were closed, because we have been there on a Monday and in the new year week. We were told that shops and restaurants close earlier on Mondays and sometimes Tuesdays, because not many people go out on these days.

We went to some beaches that are close to Dunedin, most these beaches will have  sea lions laying around in the sun. They are not giving much attention to what‘s happening around them. The majority of people are considerate and don’t go to close to the animals. New Zealand also does a good job of educating and reminding about not disturbing the nature and animals by putting signs and explanations.

Our accommodation in New Haven was more outside instead of a bigger city. Anyways the cities got smaller and smaller the further south we went. From our windows we could watch the sea lions getting out of the water and laying on the beach. This older fellow would occasionally charge at some people, we didn’t witness it, but people were hiding in the forest and they said that he‘s fast.

In the area where we are staying are many waterfalls and beaches - We went to different waterfalls, like the Purakaunui Falls and the McLean Falls, before we made our descent to the Cathedral Caves.

On our way to the Nugget Point, we got surprised by strong rain, so we made quick way back to the car without going until the lighthouse.

Our time on the east coast ends with that, and our next destination will be Te Anau.

We drove southward from Christchurch to the next location, Timaru. We initially wanted to stay close to the Lake Tekapo, because that’s the main location for beautiful hikes and nature in that area, but the accommodations around were pretty much fully booked already. Timaru has a nice little beach, on which you can see penguins in the late evening.

Our accommodation had a nice view over the fields and was very quiet, perfectly chill.

Our first stop on the way to Lake Tekapo brought us to the lupin fields, many people stop here for photo sessions.

On the Lake Tekapo are some boats and canoes, it was super hot  that day hence we decided to drive up the hill. From here you have a view over the Lake Tekapo, accompanied by a small cafe. The pictures some people made here, posing with their sunglasses, untouched coffees and croissants in front of this view, acting like this is their normal life before getting back into their dirt dusty Toyota Prius. It just warms my heart to see the humbleness of people at work.

The route took us further to Lake Pukaki. This lake gets filled from the Tasman River, and the river comes from the Tasman Lake, which comes from the Tasman Glacier. This Glacier melts down from Mount Cook, the Mountain is the home of many multi day hikes, which we are neither fit enough nor have the gear for. But we did the smaller hikes, to the glacier itself and the Kea Point Track.

We had a long drive back to Timaru, there was an accident on the road with multiple cars involved, so the road was blocked for hours. After roughly 45 minutes a nearby farmer opened the gate of his paddock to let the cars pass. We were silently sitting in our car, patiently, when we discovered slow cars over the horizon to our left, sneaking over the dry field. After that passing by people informed us that we must take the same route over the paddock. It was quite an adventure.

We were quite in a hurry, because shops and restaurant close up as soon as 6 PM here, and we would arrive by 9:30 PM.

After dinner, we went to see penguins. Timaru marina is home to the blue penguins and administration here made sure that marina walk is well lit so that you can watch blue penguins for free.
The iconic blue penguins walk up the rocky shore to find their nest in the bushes after dusk/at dawn in Summer. When we arrived at the Marina, there were lot of people on the side of the road, peaking over the fence. After a while we could see some small penguins running on the beach in the dark. One of them up-to the fence and posed for pictures.

On the next morning, we would head south. 🚗

New Zealand consists of two large islands, the North and South Island, and many smaller islands. The capital, Auckland, is on the North Island, and most of the national parks  are on the South Island, although the North Island has a few national parks too.

From what I understand, New Zealand was formed several million years ago from volcanoes that created landmass here in the middle of the ocean. When the plates drifted apart, some of the landmasses got caught on the volcanic rock here and began forming what is now New Zealand. Beneath New Zealand, the tectonic plates are constantly moving, which is why there are  many small earthquakes that you rarely feel.

Government of New Zealand does a lot to ensure that flora and fauna here continues to thrive. They try to create a safe haven for birds, you often find instructions on how not to pollute the water, and they try to keep all kinds of invasive species out of the country. Fungi, animals, and insects because these could disrupt the natural balance here.

Auckland

After a few exhausting days of planning, the time has finally come - We’re off to the New Zealand. Altogether, the journey takes 24 hours: from Berlin to Doha (6 hours) and from Doha to Auckland (16 hours). We arrive fairly late and drove straight to our accommodation.

After a long sleep, we headed to the city center. There, we took a city walking tour with Darcy. He explained a lot  about the city’s history, the history of New Zealand, and many of the subtleties of New Zealand’s symbols, street art and gestures that aren’t obvious at first glance.

For example this street art here, it has more intricacies than visible on the first sight. The outer leafs are the 🌿 Silver Fern of New Zealand, wishing a well travel to everyone who see's it. The big bird looking like a dinosaur is the (now extict) Moa of New Zealand, some species would grow up to 3.5 meter tall. On it's back is the Kiwi, and in the background you have some volcanos. On the top is one of New Zealands local dishes, the Meat Pie. And lastly on the bottom you can find a pun against the accent of New Zealanders, "Noo Zillun", supposably how they pronounce their country.

This heart is representing the unity of New Zealand and Japan as far as I recall. It has country specific flowers and animals painted into the halves.

This art is a representation of the women's suffrage in New Zealand, New Zealand is the first country where women got the right to vote.

We also visited the Auckland Art Gallery, it's free and taught us some things about the history of the Māori, the indigenous people of New Zealand. The Art Gallery also gives free opportunities for children to explore their artistic proclivities.

The City Park has a plethora of tree's from various nations, many partners of New Zealand would donate a common tree from their country and it would be planted in this park. Oak from Germany, Redwood Tree from California, and many more.

In the city, there’s a large selection of restaurants with cuisines from all over the world. It’s almost a shame we didn't have more time in Auckland to try more of them.

It was New Year’s Eve, but we were so exhausted from the flight that we went straight to bed at 7 p.m. and only to wake up briefly when the fireworks started.

The next day, we headed  back to the airport — off to the South Island.

Christchurch

After we arrived in Christchurch, we picked up our car that would accompany us until we reach Picton in 19 days and go back to the north island with a ferry. Why would we not start on the north island when we arrived there in the fiest place? Good question, we did not get any tickets for Hobbiton in the first ten days, so we shifted our itinerary to start on the south island instead.

Christchurch has a riverside market which we visited and the local museum, which was again free of charge.

In the riverside market you will find lot of food stalls selling cuisines from different countries.

An old tram, which was evading us really, is meant to drive on these rails.

We went to the Christchurch Zoo, which features a wide variety of birds and some other animals. The most important here would be the Kiwi, it's a quite rare sight in the nature and it's the national bird of New Zealand, so we definitely wanted to see it. Unfortunately no picture were allowed, so you have to visit New Zealand yourself for that experience.

For these two birds my reflexes were a bit too slow unfortunately.

Another day, we went out of the city, the day was cloudy, but don't worry, you can feel the UV in New Zealand through the clouds as well. ⛅️

The nature surrounding Christchurch is kind of scarce, more sheep than trees truly.

That concludes our first few days in New Zealand, now that we have a car we will go deeper into the country and start our roundtrip.

Die Kirche macht sich zum Glück nichts aus Prunk. Das wird einem sofort klar wenn man den Vatikan und den Petersdom besucht. Solch Bescheidenheit trifft man selten an. Nach gefühlt drei Tage wandern, ging es auf in den Vatikan. Unsere Tickets waren erst für den Nachmittag, also vertrieben wir uns, nach dem Frühstück, die Zeit in Trastevere und nahmen somit einen kleinen Umweg auf dem Weg zum Vatikan.

Am Petersdom angekommen, mussten wir wir auf die Nordseite der Mauer um den Vatikan um in den Vatikan hinein zu kommen. Zu dem Zeitpunkt wussten wir noch nicht, dass man in den Petersdom unentgeldlich von vorne hineinkommt. Allerdings war die Vatikanischen Museen und die Sixtinische Kapelle mit Michelangelos berühmten Deckengemälde auch eine Erfahrung wert. Ägyptische Mumien war aufjedenfall weit unten in der Liste von "Was wird das Erste sein was du im Vatikan siehst".

Die Museen hatten unmengen an Statuen, Gemälden und Deckenmalerei. Am Anfang war es noch recht beeindruckend, aber man gewöhnt sich schnell daran das die Gemälde riesig, die Decken bunt und die Gänge ewig sind. Trotzdem etwas was man mal gesehen haben muss, denke ich.

Der Petersdom war einfach beeindruckend. Vieles in der Stadt ist so riesig dass man sich sehr klein fühlt, aber dieses Gebäude hat dem ganzen nochmal eine Schippe draufgelegt.

Drinne sind viele Statuen von ehemaligen Päbsten (denke ich zumindest) und eine Krypta ist unter dem "Raum" den man im Bild sieht, mit den Marmorsärgen verstorbener Päbste.

Am nächsten Tag ging es über den Piazza Navona (aka Moritz Schlafzimmer), zum Pantheon. Bzw. ging es dann tatsächlich erstmal zum Trevi Brunnen, nachdem wir die Schlange zum Pantheon gesehen haben. Wir haben bereits ein paar Brunnen im Laufe unseres Rom besuches gesehen, und ich dachte nicht dass der Trevi Brunnen hier nun besonders von der Masse hervorsticht. Aber holy shit, die gesammelten Völker Instagrams waren anwesend. Massig Gesichter von verzweifelten Männern die Fotos machten bis die drei H's (Hintergrund, Haare, Hackfresse) perfekt in Szene gesetzt waren. Das Elend war ihnen ins Gesicht geschrieben. Es gab noch die Möglichkeit in den Untergrund unter den Trevi Brunnen zu gehen, allerdings haben die ausgerechnet Montags nicht offen. Somit fiel dies weg.

Geflashed von den Massen am Trevi Brunnen, sind wir mit dem Ziel Spanische Treppe, weiter durch die Stadt. Vorbei am Quirinalspalast und Trintonenbrunnen. In dem Teil der Stadt sahen die Straßen so aus, als ob man als normaler Mensch dort ebenfalls fahren kann. Die Autos in der Innenstadt um unser Hotel, sehen allesamt zerbeult und zerkratzt aus. Irgendwie gibt es kein Foto von der Treppe, der gestrige Fussmarsch hängt noch ein wenig in den Knochen.

Zum Mittag gab es Nudeln "To-Go" in der Nähe der Treppe. Zum Abend haben wir uns von einem Steakrestaurant bequatschen lassen. Generell war der Tag nicht unbedingt gesegnet mit den Restaurantbesuchen. Zum Frühstück hat Moritz anstatt "For me no coffee", solange verschiedene Kaffees bekommen, bis ich gesagt habe "Ich trink den", und unser abendlicher Steakrestaurant besuch hatte seine ganz eigene Komik. Nach dem Mittag kam der zweite Anlauf zum Pantheon, wir erhofften uns eine kürzere Schlange. Was auch zutreffend war. Wir waren Tagsüber beim Pantheon, das Bild in der Nacht ist nach dem Steak entstanden.

Die letzte Touri Station des Tages ist das Viktor-Emanuelsdenkmal (aka Moritz Haus). Ein riesiges beeindruckendes Marmordenkmal für den ersten König Italiens und den Soldaten des Ersten Weltkriegs (Sorry again). Man traf in Rom in einer Häufigkeit auf Statuen und Denkmäler wie in Island auf Wasserfälle, und noch hatte ich den Vatikan nicht gesehen. Die Stadt hat sehr viele beindruckende Gebäude. Und Säulen. Moritz hat seine Liebe zu Säulen hier manifestiert.

Ein Aufzug hinter dem Gebäude brachte einen bis aufs Dach. Vor dort aus konnte man die Einkaufsstraße bis zum Piazza del Popolo betrachten.

Tag zwei in Rom begann damit, das ich um 6 Uhr mein Handy auf Lebenszeichen der Österreicher zu checken. Da Moritz mir sagte sie fliegen um vier Uhr, hielt ich 6 Uhr für eine akzeptable Ankunftszeit. Dies verzögerte sich aber alles ein wenig.

Angekommen und gefrühstückt, haben wir uns auf den Weg Richtung Kolosseum gemacht. Perfektes Wetter, Sonne, blauer Himmel. Corona scheint dem Tourismus hier gar nichts angetan zu haben, die Straße zum Kolosseum ist voll! Rechts von der Straße war das Forum Romanum zu sehen. Die Ausgrabungen begannen 1788, und zeigten das dieser Ort im Geschichtsverlauf von 700 v. Chr. bis 800 n. Chr. als Friedhof, Marktplatz, Regierungssitz, uvm. Viele Tempel und Monumente, um siegreiche Schlachten zu ehren, wurden hier errichtet. Ab dem 12. Jahrhundert war das Areal wohl kaum noch passierbar, zu viele eingestürzte Gebäude.

Tickets zu bekommen erwies sich als gar nicht so einfach. Auf der offiziellen Ticket-Website für das Kolosseum tauchten ab und zu Angebote für Uhrzeiten auf, welche dann aber wieder verschwanden. Man hatte übers Handy nicht die Möglichkeit die Tickets so schnell zu kaufen wie sie weg waren. Wahrscheinlich irgendwelche Reseller. Auf anderen Webseiten gab es dann noch Tickets, wir mussten aber erstmal zurück zum Hotel, damit ich meinen Reisepass holen konnte. Es konnte sein dass man seinen COVID Pass evtl. mit einem Ausweisdokumente belegen muss. Wir sind am Kolosseum vorbei, und südlich über den Circus Maximus zurück zum Hotel. Der Circus diente zwischen 500 vor und 500 nach Chr. als Schauplatz für Wagenrennen, Gladiatorenkämpfe und andere athletische Wettkämpfe.

Zwischen dem Circus Maximus und dem Forum Romanum, befindet sich der Palatin Hügel, einer der Sieben Hügel Roms und (nach der Legende über zwei Babys die angeblich nicht von einem Wolf gefressen wurden, da finde ich die Auferstehungsgeschichte gar nicht mehr so fragwürdig) Gründungsort der Stadt Rom, 753 v. Chr.

Nach dem Gang durch den Circus, das Kolosseum, den Palatin Hügel und dem Forum Romanum machte sich allgemeiner Hunger breit. 20 Kilometer Strecke hatten wir bis dahin hinter uns. In der ersten Pizzeria angekommen, verdeutlichte sich was Moritz schon den ganzen Tag angepriesen hat. Italiener haben die Ruhe weg, da kann man schonmal Kunden mit 20 Minuten rumsitzen lassen. Wir wechselten das Restaurant, was sein eigenes Problem mit der Ausführung von "no mushrooms". Es passierte eher seltener dass wir genau das bekamen was wir bestellt haben.

Im Kolosseum haben wir ein paar Gesprächsfetzen von Guides mitgehört:

"The young and the old gladiators fought in the morning against animals. At lunch time there were executions..."

Damit war der erste full Touri day rum!

Nach dreizig Minuten rumstehen am Spandauer Bahnhof, startete dann doch die Reise nach Italien. Naja erstmal zum BER. Zu meinem Glück kenn ich den Flughafen bereits ein wenig, und wusste wo ich mich für das Gate B31 hinbewegen musste. Boarding, Flug und Ankunft in Rom verlief blendend. Wir flogen wieder 20 Minuten später ab als angekündigt, aber ich gehe davon aus dass das normal ist. Am Flughafen (Ciampino) wartete bereits ein Taxi, dass mir Booking.com zum Hotel geschenkt hatte. Es war angenehmes T-Shirt Wetter! Auf dem Weg zum Hotel sieht man viele historische Ruinen, wie z.B. die alten römischen Bäder von 500 nach Christus. Die Umgebung macht einem Bewusst wie stark die Römer unterwegs waren. Alles was man aus Deutschland so kennt sind vielleicht ein paar Schlösser, Bunker und Volksfeste wo Leute so tun als wären sie im Mittelalter. Dagegen wirkt hier alles sehr sehr alt.

Das Hotel war sehr verwinkelt zwischen schmalen Gassen und gleichaussehenden Plätzen, inmitten von Rom, zwischen dem Vatikanstaat und dem Pantheon angesiedelt. Generell besteht die Innenstadt hier ausschließlich aus Plätzen und Gassen, es ist schwer die Orientierung zu wahren. Die Tür zum Hotel sah eher aus wie die Pforte zu einem Keller aus welchem man nicht so schnell wieder herauskommt. Im zweiten und dritten Stock war das Hotel angesiedelt, dort wurde das Treppenhaus dann auch etwas schicker. Die Räume im Hotel waren auch ganz schick. Der Erste Eindruck, als man im Gebäude ankam war schwierig!

Da die Österreicher noch nicht vor Ort waren, schaute ich mich erstmal alleine in der Stadt um. Östlich vom Fluss "Tiber", der hier breit durch ganz Rom fließt, lief ich frei nach Schnauze durch die Stadt. Brunnen, Gassen, Cafés und viele Möglichkeiten überfahren zu werden. Es ist nicht so schlimm wie die Erzählungen aus Vietnam, oder die Erlebnisse in Laos & Thailand, aber sicher fühlt man sich hier auf den Straßen hier nicht! Noise Cancelling Kopfhörer sind hier tödlich.

Am Abend wurde die Stadt belebter, viele Straßenmusiker spielen hier auf den Plätzen oder vor der Engelsburg. Und nicht nur so "Hit the Road, Jack" sondern meiner Meinung nach echt talentierte Leute.

Morgens am 16.05. in Vang Vieng gehts los, 6 Stunden Autofahrt, auch wenn Google sagt es wären 4, die Autos waren etwas langsamer unterwegs und Mittag gab es auch auf dem Weg.

Sehr geile Landschaften auf dem Weg, aber insgesamt doch eher eine verschlafene Fahrt, alle waren etwas fertig vom Vortag!

Luang Prabang war bis 1975 die Königshauptstadt von Laos und liegt direkt an dem Mekong River, auf welchem wir dann, zwei Tage später, mit einem Boot Richtung Thailand fahren werden.

Wir sind relativ spät am Abend im Hotel angekommen, ein paar Leute haben noch ihre Wäsche abgegeben und sich etwas die Stadt angeguckt, und versucht noch 1-2 Drinks zu finden, aber es waren alles ziemlich durch und sind auch früh schlafen gegangen. Am nächsten Tag gings auch früh weiter, in den Kuang Si Butterfly Park, wo es viel um Natur und Wasser ging.

Am Abend ging es noch hoch auf den Tempel, mit viele Treppen und vielen chinesischen Touristen, für den Blick auf den Sonnenuntergang über dem Fluss.

Die am Tag zuvor geplanten Aktivitäten standen an! Wir gingen zu dem Kayakverleih, und dieser fuhr uns dann den Fluss hoch. Den sollten wir dann 8 km Flussabwärts mit den Kayaks abfahren.

Am Fluss wurde uns dann nochmal Grundlegendes zum Kayak fahren erklärt. Ich weiß es ehrlichgesagt nicht mehr! Ich glaube etws mit den Stromschnellen und wegen den Felsen im Fluss. Dadurch dass die Felsen ab und zu aus dem Wasser ragten, musste man da schon etwas aufpassen.

Nach 1 1/2 Stunden sind wir dann an unserem Zwischenstop angekommen. Dort sollten wir die Wasserhöhle erkunden und etwas zu Essen bekommen.

Bevor wir in die Höhle gingen, wurde uns erklärt das wir auf keinen Fall die Gänge in der Höhle selber erkunden sollten, weil dort allesmögliche drinne auftauchen könnte. Von größere Spinnen, über Schlangen, bis hin zu größen Katzen. Sehr beruhigend für alle Beteiligten. 😅

Es ging recht schnell aus den Reifen raus, und es wurde auf Beine umgestellt. Viele von uns hatte nur Flip Flops oder Badelatschen bei, welche bei dem Untergrund so gar nichts gebracht haben. Da war dann Barfuss sicherer!

Nach dem Entfliehen der Höhle, gab es Essen vom Grill. Was ziemlich gut war!

Nach dem Essen gings wieder ins Kayak, und die letzte Meter den Fluss runter, bis wir wieder in der Stadt ankamen.

Am Abend sind wir in einem Irish Pub essen gewesen, meine zwei Sitznachbarn, ein Pärchen aus England, haben sich mit dem Besitzer gute zwei Minuten über die verschiedenen Arten von der Herstellung von Sheppards Pie unterhalten. Die Frau hat (mit 22 wohlgemerkt) selbst ein Restaurant geleitet und wusste daher das ein oder andere. Am Ende haben sie sich dann dagegen entschieden. Die Zwei waren so begeisterbar für Essen, es hat einfach Spaß ihnen zuzuhören. Sie haben Insgesamt 5 oder 6 Sachen bestellt, um einfach allesmögliche zu probieren. Darunter eine extra Kanne "gravy", ein Wort was ich noch nicht kannte. Hat sich dann als "Bratensoße" rausgestellt. Alles dort war sehr lecker!

Später war noch ein "Lichtermark", oder so ähnlich wurde es genannt.

Nach einen Frühstück, ging es los in einen kleinen schönen Buddha Park und in das COPE Visitor Centre.

Nach ein paar Minuten habe ich gemerkt, dass ich mal wieder keine Sonnencreme eingesteckt oder benutzt habe. Zum Glück waren wir nur 1-2 Stunden in dem Park, daher war das alles noch im Rahmen!

Von dem COPE Visitor Centre habe ich keine Fotos, weil ich das irgendwie unangebracht fand. Aber man kann sich auf Tripadvisor ein paar Fotos angucken um einen Eindruck zu bekommen. In dem Centre ging es viel um die Kriegszeit zwischen Vietnam und USA, und Laos als Nachbarland. Viele Streubomben der USA die in Vietnam landen sollten, wurden auch über Laos verteilt. Es sind immer noch sehr viele Bomben nicht explodiert, was dazu führt das diese beim Spielen oder auf dem Weg zur Arbeit zünden und Menschen dadurch Gliedmaßen verlieren. Es hat viel zum Nachdenken angeregt, ähnlich dem Friedenmuseum in Hiroshima.

Um 12:30 Uhr sind wir dann nach Vang Vieng aufgebrochen. Wir sind 4 Stunden gefahren.

Unser dortiges Hotel hatte sogar einen Pool mit dabei!

Die Landschaft rund um Vang Vieng war unglaublich schön.

Am Abend gings darum die Aktivitäten für den nächsten Tag zu planen, eine Kayak fahrt stand an und eine Wanderung in einer Wasserhöhle, alle waren dabei. Zum Abendessen gab es "Larp", ein traditionelles Gericht welches in Minze gekochtes Fleisch beinhaltete. Dazu gabs Beerlao! Welches wie Heineken schmeckte. Es stellt sich dann heraus, dass die Fabrik die das Bier herstellt, früher für Heineken gearbeitet hat. Nun aber ihr eigenes Bier herstellt. 😁 Nach der Essen, gings in die Sakura Bar, die meiner Meinung nach immer noch den Besten Trinkspruch an ihrer Wand zu stehen hat. Es gab immer ein T-Shirt dazu wenn man zwei Getränke gleichzeitig bestellt hat, am Ende hatten wir soviele T-Shirts, eine aus der Reisegruppe hatte diese T-Shirts so ziemlich jeden Tag an, nur in verschiedenen Farben. Der Trinkspruch stand dort auch drauf.

Um 14:30 gings von Tegel aus los. Damals wusste ich noch nicht, dass das mein vorletzter Flug von dort sein wird. 😅 Es ging nach Zürich, von dort nach Bangkok und danach nach Vientiane in Laos. Ich hatte mich gedanklich schon von meinem Gepäck verabschiedet. Aber es kam alles mit mir in Vientiane an.

Die Wettervoraussage in Bangkok sah sehr ermutigend aus!

Aus dem Flugzeug gestiegen, hat mich erstmal die Hitze umgehauen. Nach gefühlt 16 Stunden bei 0°C Klimaanlagentemperatur, brach 35-40° auf einen ein. Ein Taxi hat mich zum Hotel gebracht, in welchem ich erstmal alleine in einem Zimmer mit drei Betten saß. Es war ca. 10 Uhr, und die Reisegruppe mit der ich mich treffen sollte, würde erst Abends eintreffen. Also erkundigte ich erstmal ein wenig die Umgebung.

Am Abend gabs dann das Treffen mit der Reisegruppe, ein paar von uns waren schon im Hotel als die Anderen eintrafen. Die Gruppe bestand aus neu dazustoßenden, wie mir, und aus Leuten die bereits seit ein paar Wochen unterwegs waren. Vorher waren sie in Vietnam.

Wir sind Geld holen gegangen und dann zu einem Restaurant.

An Tag 10 wurde eine kleine Pause in Osaka eingeschmissen, am Tag 11 ging die letzte Station unserer Reise ging auf den Berg Koyasan.
